Totality makes landfall on the Kimberley coast, crosses Australia to Sydney, then reaches the southern South Island of New Zealand before the central line runs out into the South Pacific.

Along the narrow central path (Australia and New Zealand, including Sydney), the Moon covers the Sun completely for up to 5 m 10 s: daylight collapses into a deep twilight, the brightest stars appear, and the solar corona becomes visible to the naked eye. Outside the path, across Southeast Asia, the East Indies, Australia, and New Zealand, the Sun appears partially bitten. Never look at the partial phases without proper eclipse glasses.
