What this build does
This build includes third-party services that use cookies. Google Analytics measures aggregate usage. Their cookie categories are described below, alongside the first-party preference keys World Time Lab writes itself.
You can verify any of this yourself. Open your browser's developer tools, choose the Application or Storage panel, and look at the Cookies and Local Storage entries for this domain. Nothing on this page depends on you taking our word for it.
Preferences World Time Lab stores
These are the keys this build writes or reads. Each one is created only when you use the feature that needs it, each exists so the interface behaves the way you left it, and none of them identifies you. They all carry the sd- prefix, so the storage panel in your developer tools will show you the current set directly.
| Name | Type | Set by | Lasts | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
sd-theme | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data | Remembers whether you chose the light or the dark theme. |
sd-pinned-places-v2 | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data | Remembers the places you pinned in the world clock workspace. |
sd-pinned-places-v1 | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data | An older pin list. Read once so old pins survive an upgrade; never written. |
sd-calendar-maker-project | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data | Your draft in the printable calendar maker, so a reload does not lose the work. |
sd-timer-presets-v1 | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data | Timer presets you chose to save. |
sd-reaction-history-v1 | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data | Your own recent times and best score in the reaction-time test. |
sd-hour-cycle-v1 | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data, or until you switch back to following your browser | Remembers whether you chose the 12-hour or the 24-hour clock, so every page agrees with you. |
sd-eclipse-place | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data | The one place you last chose in the eclipse tool: label, coordinates and time zone. Written when you search for a place, type coordinates, or press Use my location. It stays in this browser and is never put in the address bar. |
sd-consent-v1 | Local storage | This site | Until you clear site data | Your answer to the consent banner, the single word granted or denied. Written only when you press Accept or Decline. It is local storage rather than a cookie, so your answer is never sent to any server, including ours. |
Refusing them costs you very little: the theme falls back to your operating system preference, the clock format falls back to your browser's, and pinned places, saved presets and your last eclipse place last only until you close the tab. No feature is locked behind storage.
Advertising and analytics cookies
Google Analytics
Analytics storage distinguishes one visit from another and one session from the next so that page counts are not wildly wrong. It is used in aggregate: which pages are read, which are ignored, roughly where readers are in the world. It is not used to build a profile of you on this site, and World Time Lab has no way to link it to a person because it holds no identities. You can refuse it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or any content blocker.
Consent and how to change your mind
This build shows World Time Lab's own consent banner, and it gates analytics only. There is no advertising on this build, so there is no advertising cookie to consent to. Advertising and analytics storage both start denied before any script runs, and Google Analytics is not requested at all until you press Accept. Pressing Decline means no analytics request is ever made, not merely a request without cookies.
Your choice is remembered in this browser's local storage under the key sd-consent-v1, not in a cookie, so it is never sent to any server. Clearing site data forgets it and the banner returns.
To change it, use the privacy choices control in the site footer. It reopens the same banner, and a new choice replaces the old one immediately.
This banner is not certified under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. It does not need to be for analytics, but Google does require a certified platform before a publisher serves personalized advertising to visitors in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland. If advertising is ever switched on here, this banner is replaced by Google's certified consent message; the build refuses to start otherwise.
